Children of all ages are hard to buy for, when they are newborns there is little they need; when children get older they grow up so fast that they quickly grow out of many gifts; when children get a little older still and start turning into young adults it is difficult even for their parents to know exactly what things they like and are into and very easy to buy the wrong thing.
Whatever a child’s age though a personalized gift even if something more ornamental than practical is something that has a lot of extra value to the child and is something that will endure.
For newborns great personalized gifts include comforters including soft toys and blankets, embroidered with the child’s name, perhaps their date of birth and maybe even a message these will be gifts that will be kept for a long time and may well find their way into keepsake boxes that the child will keep for the rest of their lives partly for the memories and association with the person who has given them the present.
With slightly older children you may want to give them toys and you have more of a choice. A lot of the toys they have will be quickly grown out of, often expensive toys will be discarded as soon as a fad is over. With more traditional toys though such as wooden toys they will be treasured for much longer and aren’t reliant on a TV show to stay fun. Traditional wooden toys also last, they can become heirlooms passed from one generation to another who can see the quality and keep them for their own children. Wooden toys include sets such as train sets, farms and castles, all of which can be personalized be it the name of the castle such as ‘Hannah’s castle’ the name of the train such as ‘The Jacques Express’ or the name of the farm such as ‘Farmer Joe’s Farm’’.
Other personalized items may be less for everyday use but something special to be treasured none the less. This includes engraved metal gifts such as cutlery sets or china bowl, cup and plate sets. Often these will never be used and will be kept in their original packaging due to being so special to the child. Other items could include money boxes, children can use something like this throughout their childhood to save up pocket money: they would make a great gift for a newborn with a few silver dollars to get them started.
Many personalized gifts are less for being kept long term and may be for short term use as a child grows up, this certainly includes clothing that children will soon grow out of or wear out but which will be treasured for a time. Things like towels and bathrobes are a lovely gift to make bath time more fun for children and to make it easier to coax children out of the bath for parents. Personalized towels also are great for children to take to school, they shouldn’t be able to lose them and get them muddled for a start and the same is true for personalized school bags and sports bags.
